(click to expand)- This team facilitates an integrated approach to arts education for
pupils and schools through the building of effective partnerships
between arts services within Education Leeds, other council departments
and arts and cultural organisations in the city. Currently Artforms offers;
- Instrumental and Vocal tuition
- Our team of specialist musicians provide a high-quality, broad-based
curriculum of learning music through instrument or voice.
School-based music groups and ensembles enrich the whole school through contributions to class music lessons, concerts and performances and including the many skills that develop with learning to play or sing through their cultural an creative experiences.i. Group and individual lessons including strings, guitar, woodwind, electric/bass guitar, recorders, steel pan, brass, keyboards, Asian music, percussion and voice.
ii. Support for instrumental/vocal pupils through- Opportunities to play and sing in City of Leeds Youth Music Groups (CLYM) and bands, orchestras and choirs in Music Centres (East Leeds, Guiseley, Horsforth, North Leeds, Rothwell, South Leeds, West Leeds and Wetherby);
- Development days, residential courses and festivals;
- Instrument Purchase Scheme for schools and pupils in Leeds schools (instruments available at competitive prices and without VAT);
- Low-cost instrument loan scheme;
- At-cost instrument repairs;
- Stand alone projects.
iii. Conductors/directors for school music groups and choirs.

- Curriculum Support: class music teaching at all key
stages
- Specialist musicians providing a high-quality, broad-based
curriculum of class music learning in all key stages. Schools
contract into this service for a variety of reasons, including PPA cover
or for their own staff development.

- Wider Opportunities
- As part of the government's Music Manifesto all children at KS2 should have the opportunity to learn an instrument if they wish to do so. To support this aim we offer:
- Whole class tuition in a variety of instruments at £2225.50 for one hour (45 minutes teaching and 15 minutes set up);
- One or two teachers as appropriate working alongside the class teacher;
- Free Loan of instruments;
- The Music Makers scheme offers subsidised packages of musical activities to clusters of schools for after-schools clubs and activity around transfer;
- Bursaries of £95 are available to schools towards the cost of children on Free School Meals in receipt of small group instrumental / vocal lessons in school;
- Accompanying Pianists
- Accompanying pianists in primary and special schools support school teachers leading singing in a whole school, year or key stage groups, classes, choirs and other groups;
- Enhanced level accompanying pianists are also able to contribute to learning in the National Curriculum, and to coach groups in classroom percussion and other instrumental or vocal activities.
- Curriculum Enrichment projects
- Small teams of peripatetic musicians work with a class or a year group to enhance high-quality learning in creative music, performances, class orchestra or, in conjunction with Artemis, topic related activities such as Tudors, transport, toys.....
- Music Clubs in schools
- After school music clubs are increasingly popular and fit perfectly into Extended Services programmes. They could be for mixed ensemble work or for creating new music from scratch using instrumentalists and singers of all standards, as well as for extending the music work.
- Music technology
- AS and A2 Music Technology courses;
- INSET for teachers;
- Facilities for recording school music groups;
- Advice for schools.
- Inclusive Music
- Courses for inclusive groups of children with SEN in the Gordon Parry Centre (at West Park) and in Schools;
- INSET for teachers and teaching assistants;
- Specialist support for individuals.
- Music Therapy
- World Music
- Workshops in Indian music, steel pan, African instruments, angklung and samba percussion delivered by a range of highly skilled specialists;
- Hire of resource boxes of materials including instruments, music CDs and videos about the music of Africa, South America, South Asia, the Far East and samba.
- Concerts
- Live music is an experience for children that cannot be equaled. It engages their senses with sight, sound and movement. Over 400 days of concerts, projects and workshops take place in schools each year - details are sent direct to schools.
- Each year for one week the peripatetic music staff form an orchestra and a big band to perform 50 minute concerts for high school audiences and their primary school guests;
- The String and Woodwind Trio deliver appropriately designed concerts for all age groups in primary schools, sometimes in conjunction with Artemis;
- all concerts include appropriate information about the music and the instruments being heard
- INSET and curriculum support for all schools
- Professional Development Programme which offers training to primary and secondary school teachers in a variety of areas.
