
Early Years Service - Daycare Support Team

Purpose of the service
To offer advice and support through the Ofsted Registration Process
and following Inspections.
Description of the service
The Care Standards Act 2000 clearly defined Ofsted’s and the Local
Authority’s responsibilities in the regulation of Day Care. Ofsted have
four clear areas of responsibilities: Registration, Inspection,
Investigation and Enforcement. The Local Authority is charged with the
statutory retained function of providing advice, training and support,
locally through the Day Care Support Team in the Early Years Service.
Schools providing daycare for children under 8 years are entitled to the same service from the DCS team as any other potential or registered daycare providers in the City.
Advice on initial application and suitability of premises and guidance on meeting the requirements of the 14 National Daycare Standards will be available from the Team.

This service is free of charge to any potential or existing
childcare providers in Leeds.
