1. Purpose of the service

   1. To provide:
      • state of the art IT facilities for the teachers and pupils of Leeds in a non-school environment;
      • innovative IT courses for students between KS2 and KS5;
      • develop innovative approaches to cross curricular teaching and learning through the use of IT and other technology;
      • inset for teachers on using the latest software;
      • advice on hardware and software packages;
      • out of hours learning opportunities.
   2. To support:
      • the implementation of the KS3 ICT strategy;
      • the introduction of programmes that will boost attainment for pupils in KS2 KS3 and KS4 e.g. SAM Learning, Maths Alive;
      • new AS/A2 level courses e.g. Music Technology;
      • delivery of INSET by other providers.
2. Description of the service

   • City Learning Centres (CLCs) are a key element of the Excellence in Cities (EiC) programme, facilitated by the Department of Education and Skills.  We are a network of school-based centres providing state-of-the-art ICT based learning opportunities for Leeds and the surrounding community.

     Leeds City Learning Centres offer new ways of thinking when it comes to improving both staff and student skills in a positive non-school environment.  We aim to create state-of-the-art ICT based learning opportunities for the pupils in your school.  Our purpose is to enhance learning across the whole curriculum by providing courses and opportunities for individual pupils.

     Out of hours activities
     The Leeds CLC's run a comprehensive programme of out of school activities all delivered through the vehicle of ICT, ranging from free browsing time on the internet to focused curriculum activities for target groups of young people.  These include;

     • Mini electronics;
     • GCSE Support Work;
     • DJ Workshops;
     • Family Learning;
     • Literacy and Numeracy;
     • AS Psychology;
     • Homework Club;
     • Saturday Advanced Maths and English sessions;
     • Year 7 Skills Sessions;
     • Specialist IT Development Courses;
     • Music Technology;
     • Media Production;
     • Animation and Film Workshops;
     • Games in Education workshops/projects.

   2. Technical support is generally available within the centre, specialised and dedicated support may be arranged at an additional cost of £25 per hour.  Video conferencing can also be arranged at £50 to £100 per hour depending on connection speed and category of user.
      
      Teas and coffees available at £1 per cup
      
      Lunches/tea/coffees for the day £12 per delegate
